What Is The Practice Of Internal Medicine?

Internal Medicine is a non-surgical medical specialty for adults focused on internal organ diseases. Internists are skilled in disease prevention and in managing complex disorders of the body. Internists act as primary care physicians and develop long term relationships with patients. Internists provide patients with regular physical exams, offer preventative care, and will diagnose and treat most non-surgical illnesses. If a patient has a serious or unusual circumstance, the internist will make a referral to the appropriate specialist.
