Many pain medications work by blocking pain signals from the site of injury to the brain. After all, it is your brain that registers the feeling of pain in the first place. The pain signals travel through the nerves from the site of injury to the brain and then back again to the site of injury, much like cars travelling back and forth on a highway.
Study Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of a new medication in treating moderate to severe chronic low back pain. This new medication works in three important ways for treating low back pain symptoms:
- Blocking pain signals in the brain.
- Blocking pain signals the travels up the spinal cord.
- Blocking pain signals that travel through the nerves.
Study Length: Depending on study results, approximately 6 months with 12 required office visits.
