STUDY INFORMATION

SCOPE OF PROBLEM: Menopausal hot flushes and associated insomnia, which occur frequently in women transitioning through menopause, can be debilitating. Approximately 40 million American women and 37 million European women are moving through menopause today and 75% of these women are experiencing associated vasomotor symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats and associated insomnia. Hot flushes, on average, persist for 4 years after their onset but 15-20% of menopausal women continue to experience hot flushes well into their 60s.

STUDY PURPOSE: To determine the effectiveness of an herbal medication derived from various traditional Chinese botanical agents for the treatment of women who are postmenopausal (no menstrual cycles for 6 months or longer) and suffer from moderate to severe hot flushes on a daily basis.
